Exec: Turkey's Ziraat Bank stops servicing Russian Mir cards

ANKARA, Sep 29 (PRIME) -- Turkey's Ziraat Bank has stopped servicing Russian Mir pay cards, a representative told PRIME on Thursday.

"No, (the services) are not provided," the representative said.

Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that Halkbank, Ziraat Bank and VakifBank had stopped servicing Mir cards. An official of Ziraat Bank said then that the bank had received no notifications on the discontinuation of transactions on the Russian payment system.

Last week, Turkish banks Isbank and DenizBank confirmed suspension of the Mir card service following the latest U.S. and U.K. sanctions against Moscow. Turkish daily Yeni Safak reported later that the U.S. threatened to slap sanctions on Turkish banks for their work with the payment system. Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey was seeking alternatives to Mir.
